We're reading: This House of Sky, by Ivan Doig

Ivan Doig grew up along the rugged rims of the Rocky Mountains in Montana with his father, Charlie, and his grandmother, Bessie Ringer. His life was formed among the sheepherders and characters of small-town saloons and valley ranches as he wandered beside his restless father. The prose of this memoir is as resonant of the landscape of the American West as it is of those moments in memory which determine our lives. What Doig deciphers from his past is not only a sense of the land and how it shapes us, but also of our inextricable connection to those who shape our values in the search for intimacy, independence, love and family. This magnificently told story is at once especially American and quietly universal in its ability to awaken a longing for an explicable past.

Join the book club and share you ideas on our latest reads! We meet monthly, currently on 3rd Mondays.
Email info@northwestneighborsnetwork.org for the meeting location this month. (Shifted due to President's Day holiday)

Celebrating Black History Throughout the Year

February is Black History Month, but Black history, art, and culture are celebrated year-round at the Northwest African American Museum. This award-winning museum is located in the historic Colman School building adjacent to Jimi Hendrix Park in Seattle’s Central District. The museum and park welcome people of all ages. Currently, and through March 15, you’ll find a museum exhibit called "Iconic Black Women: Ain’t I a Woman," featuring the work of local artist Hiawatha D., who pays “homage to the resilience, power and beauty of Black women and Black Women history-makers.”

Contact a fellow NNN member, or email info@northwestneighborsnetwork.org if you're interested in attending as a NNN group.

Now that tax season is nearly here, and already scammers are at work on new methods of tax identify theft. Read the FTC site to review the content shared about recognizing, avoiding and recovering from the latest scams.
