Subject: August Online and Social Events, Links, News
From: Northwest Neighbors Network

Hello NNN members, friends, and family,
The August weather is not our typical, and neither is our ability to get out and enjoy our community as much as usual. Our Social Activities Committee and volunteers are busy researching new ways to connect despite the COVID-19 restrictions. Here are some upcoming events, with some you need to take action on ASAP to take part. As always, if you have ideas to share, send them on!
  • Social Activities Team Report/Action from Your Input
  • Jazz Walk Online August 11
  • Humanities.org Online Pacific NW Odd & Innovative Transportation August 11
  • NEST Village Exercise Classes (Tuesdays and Thursdays)
  • NEST Village Estate Planning Class
  • Lynnwood Garden Tips
  • Volunteering for "Phone a Friend"

The first week of August, the NNN Social Activities Committee asked for member feedback.  Sixteen people responded via survey, email, in person.  About a third said they were too busy or satisfied with their current NNN interaction, so that was good to hear as well!

  • From those interested in more/new social interactions, the top contenders were in-person, outside (properly distanced and masked), as well as online with Zoom, Facetime, etc.
  • Discussion with other folks following a presentation or Webinar was attractive to a third of the respondents, and an equal number liked the unstructured chats online.
  • Top of the list of topics were Movie discussions, TED talks, and gardening presentations/conversations.  Followed by a few each for recipes, online games, and travel discussions.

This Friday, August 14, we will offer an in-person, appropriately distanced, mask-wearing event in Edmonds City Park.  View the Events calendar on the NNN site for details.

We will also be adding Zoom sessions and webinars this month.  Watch for more events, and keep the input coming!
