Hello Neighbors,
At the heart of our work is a simple yet profound truth: home is more than just a place—it is a source of comfort, stability, and dignity. Every day, our organization stands beside seniors and adults with disabilities, ensuring they can continue living in the place they call home. This mission is built not only on the services we provide but it is built on a foundation of community and connection. This is what you bring to life every day. | | | With that vision in mind, and the fact that we have brought on Alison as our new Executive Director to lead the organization’s operations, I would like to share a slight change in our monthly communication with you. Starting next month, the President’s Message will transition to the Executive Director’s Message, giving you an even closer connection to the organization’s activities and accomplishments. Alison will share updates, insights, and opportunities for engagement, ensuring we remain focused and responsive to the needs of our community.
It has been a privilege to connect with you each month. While this transition marks a new chapter, rest assured that I will continue to communicate with you, sharing updates and perspectives from the Board of Directors, as we navigate the future together.
Your voice and engagement are vital to the strength of our organization, and I look forward to staying connected with you. And as always, I’m only an email away!
Thank you for your dedication to our mission. Together, we are shaping a future where independence and belonging remain within reach for many more of our neighbors.
With appreciation,
~ Mahyar (Mayhar@NorthwestNeighborsNetwork)

NNN and UW School of Nursing bring Mountlake Terrace Plaza Senior Living residents and student readers together for an uplifting afternoon gathering
   |
Working with NNN Advisory Council member, Dr. Robin Fleming, Board members Eileen C. and Lee G. supported University of Washington Bothell School of Nursing (UW BSN) students working to complete their capstone project, a requirement for graduation. Dr. Fleming has collaborated with NNN in the past by offering intergenerational learning opportunities to her students as part of the program’s core curriculum. Managers with Mountlake Terrace Plaza Senior Living fully supported the idea, and the UW BSN students prepared, organized and arranged for a small group of young readers to meet with and read one of their favorite books to Plaza residents. Several residents attended, including NNN members Paula G, Gretchen M, and Ken W.
Each student introduced herself, explained why she selected the book she brought, and then read it to the engaged and appreciative audience. When the stories were finished, someone asked if the girls would sing. Boy, did they! One of the nursing students pulled up some karaoke music, and the girls sang one of their favorite songs. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed cookies and lemonade, courtesy of the Mountlake Terrace Plaza Senior Living kitchen staff.
The nursing students will document the experience, which includes a student-created video, and present the completed project to their peers. Lee and Eileen will attend the presentation.
Click on this link if you’d like to enjoy the students’ short video of the day. |
