The story is based on the real-life All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) and there’s no need to balk when you’ve got Penny Marshal as director.
Set in 1943 during World War II, the story follows two sisters as they join the first women’s professional baseball league. With the men off to war, the AAGPL is formed to help keep the sport alive. The women face societal pressures, including attending charm school and adhering to strict “ladylike” rules, while proving themselves on the field. The film blends sports drama with comedy, following the team’s struggles, camaraderie, and the challenges of balancing personal and professional life.
